The concrete casemate is located on the same level as the ceiling of the corridor. One entered there from a small corridor by means of a metal ladder, now missing, and with the help of a vertical railing attached to the wall.
The double right-angle curve served to dampen the shock wave in case of an internal explosion, thus reducing damage to other parts of the works. The air-tight door located at the top of the stair leading to the living quarters added to this protection.
The climb to the casemate, given the lack of the ladder, is not easy and involves the risk of falling. The presence of waste and refuse makes the situation even worse. It is therefore advised to not go inside, especially when alone.
The casemate is protected by a three-part metal plate which was strong enough to withstand heavy caliber bullets. Underneath it there is a niche which held the water reservoir for cooling the Fiat model 14 machine gun which was placed in the post.
Note the carefully done camouflage which makes the concrete construction look like a rock.
